Boris Haxel is Chairman and Director of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the Schwarzwald-Baar Hospital. He is a specialist in otorhinolaryngology and has been an allergologist since 2012. He studied at the University of Mainz, Germany, the University of Pretoria, South Africa and the University of Bern, Switzerland, and was trained at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at the University Hospital of Mainz.
Professor Dr Haxel has a broad expertise in allergology with main interests in diagnostic procedures, including skin prick testing, intracutaneous testing, blood tests for specific immunoglobulin E, and nasal and ocular provocation procedures. He specialises in inhalant allergens and hymenoptera allergy, and has long-term experience in allergen immunotherapy (AIT) administered via subcutaneous and sublingual routes. He is also an expert in chronic inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract, including chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps, and treatment with biologicals.
Professor Dr Haxel is a member of a number of scientific societies, including the German Society for Allergology and Clinical Immunology, the Association of German Allergologists and the European Rhinologic Society. He has over 50 publications spanning several areas of research, including AIT for house dust mite allergy.
